Founder & Managing Director
Darren is a professional storyteller who combines 25 years of journalism, public relations and digital marketing with his own start-up experience to help CEO/founders and their teams find their voice in an increasingly noisy world.
Darren started his media career in 1998 on the newsdesk of The Age in Melbourne, Australia, writing on regional issues and small business. In 1999, he joined Bloomberg News to expand his repertoire into financial news. He moved to the firm's Sydney office the following year, where he covered Australian equity markets.
In January 2004, Darren landed in Bloomberg's Hong Kong office to cover Hong Kong and Asia Pacific equity markets and asset management. In 2008, he was promoted to lead Bloomberg's coverage of Asian equities, just in time for the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the start of the Global Financial Crisis. Darren's team was part of Bloomberg's award-winning coverage of the market fallout from the GFC.
In 2013, Darren joined Bloomberg's Asia finance team as an editor, where he worked on stories on Asian commercial and investment banking, private banking and wealth management. His personal focus was on financial technology and innovations at financial institutions. It was during this time that Darren had his first start-up experience, working with three business partners on a high-end men's underwear brand.
Startup life
Darren left Bloomberg at the end of 2017 to join one of Asia's first crypto payments companies as Chief Communications Officer. Working closely with the entire C-suite, Darren built out the internal and external communications functions for a fast-growing start-up. He also worked on and led internal projects in blockchain and gaming, honing his skills in strategic leadership and project management.
Over 2021-2023, Darren led a team that built The AllStar, a global sports app, and a newsdesk to go with it. Listed in the Play and Apple app stores, The AllStar now has more than 200,000 downloads, with global website traffic that peaked at 100,000 readers a month.

A 25-year career wordsmith, David is experienced in SEO strategy and content optimisation. He joins UnMute having worked closely with Darren on start-up projects over the last few years.

Peggy was the former Head of Communications for Monk’s Hill Ventures, a leading early–stage tech VC firm in Southeast Asia. She was also a Managing Director at Teneo, and held senior roles at Ryan Communication, Fleishman-Hillard, and Edelman.
